General Information about Pedigree Builder:
What is Pedigree Builder?
Our internet-based Pedigree Builder software will ultimately create a Pedigree report of up to 5 generations of any one dog. For example: puppy, parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and great, great grandparents. The system also has an option where it will put your Pedigree into HTML statements, for usage on your own website. Our Pedigree software can generate a pedigree in three formats, Vertical, Horizontal, and Side-by-Side.
How does it work?
The Pedigree is generated based on the dog records that you add to your onlineKennel. Once you have added your dogs to your onlinekennel, you can run Pedigrees as often as you wish, without having to add any additional information. You may add, edit, & delete dogs from your onlinekennel at any time. You may tell the system to put your Kennel and/or Pedigrees into HTML for usage on your website, if you have one.
What other features does the system have?
You can generate a Birth Certificate for any of the dogs that are in your onlinekennel, or have the system generate HTML for your birth certificate.
What are the terms of usage?
The system does Not come with any guarantees. The system is used on an as available, as is basis, with no warrenty or guarantee of any kind. And by using this system, you agree to these terms. In addition, you agree Not to use this system to house highly personal or confidential information about yourself or others. Also, as stated in our basic terms of service, your email address is never sold or shared with any outside parties; it is only used to communicate with you regarding your account, and of course, to give you the ability to signin to your account.
How do I Sign-up for a Pedigree Builder Account ?
Step 1::
Click on the "Sign-up for new account." link. Enter your firstname and lastname, in the fields provided.
Enter your email-address in the field provided. Note: Please use an email address that you own; do NOT use someone elses email address. You must also give us a valid email address, or you will not be able to complete the sign-up process, and the system will not work correctly. Now enter your desired password in the two fields provided. Note: password must be at least 5 characters long. Now click on the Sign - Up button.
If successful, the system will now respond with a "thank you" message that your userid has been added to the system.
Step 2::
Now go to your email box and open the "Pedigree Builder: Welcome" email from us.
Look at the line that says: "Here is your account ACTIVATION code:xxxxxx". Where "xxxxxx" is your activation code. Using your mouse, highlight and copy the activation code. (Note: if you wish, you may just write it down on a piece of paper, but be careful, the activation code is case sensitive and may contain capital letters).
Now go back to the Pedigree Builder homepage (or just click on the link that is being displayed on the "thank you" screen.) Go down to the form that says: Activate New Userid:. In the field marked "Activation Code:", paste (or type) the activation code that you just got from the welcome email. Now enter your email address in the field marked: "Your email address:". Tutorial
Step 1 : Sign-up for your Pedigree Builder account. (See above section, How do I sign-up?)
Step 2 : Create your Profile record.
After you signin to your Pedigree Builder account, click on the Profile button.
Fill out the form and click on the Submit button. Note: The creation of your Profile record is generally a one-time event; however, you may change/edit your Profile record at any time.
The following is a breakdown of the fields in the Profile record:
Kennel Name: This is the name of your breeder business or kennel. If you are not a breeder or kennel, simply put in your name or your website name (not url). Examples: XYZ Kennels, XYZ Golden Retrievers.
Kennel street address, city, country, & phone fields:These are optional fields that contain the location of your breeding facility or kennel.
Country: This is your country. Note: you can optionally override this value for each dog that you add to your onlineKennel. (You will see how this works later in the tutorial.)
Breed: This is your breed name. If golden retriever, leave blank. Also, you will be able to override this value for each dog in your Kennel.
Breeder Names: This is usually the name of a person or persons.
Breeder Homepage Website URL: This is your website address, if you have one. Please enter as http://www.mysite.com
This URL will appear on your Pedigree papers and your Pedigree Builder screens.
Step 3 : Add your dog's to your online Kennel:
Note: The creation of your Kennel records is generally a one-time event; however, you may ADD more dogs to your kennel at any time. You may also EDIT or DELETE existing dogs from your kennel at any time. Upon your request, the system can also download your Kennel to HTML statements, for usage on your website!
Note: you may enter all of your dogs into the Kennel; however, only the dogs that will participate in the Pedigree need to be added to the Kennel. Remember: Pedigrees will be based on the dog records that are defined in your Kennel.
The following is a breakdown of the fields in a Kennel record:
Dog Name: This is the dogs short name. For example, Butch or Sadie.
Dog Name Long: This is the dogs long or registered name. For example: Lady Goldie of Sunnyville.
Date of Birth: This is the date of birth for this dog only. For example: January 1 2002. Note: if you don't remember the day of birth for this dog, just use the 1st.
Gender: This is the sex for this dog only. For example: Male or Female.
Color: This is the color of this dogs coat. For example: Gold, White, Dark Golden, Lite Golden, Redish/Gold etc.
Breed: This is the breed of this dog. For example: Golden Retriever.
Country of Birth: This is the country that this dog was born in. For example: United Kingdom.
Titles, Awards, Achievements: This is where you can list this dogs abilities, titles, awards, and any notable achievements. This information will appear on the Pedigree papers for this dog.
Father (Sire) record ID: (This is the kennel record ID of this dog's Father) : Enter the system assigned ID number for this dogs father. Note: You will only be able to add this number after the kennel record for this dogs father has been added to your kennel. The record ID for each dog can be found on the left side of your kennel list, in red. For example: ID=4. When entering these numbers, just type in the number itself, do not include the "ID=".
Mother (Dam) record ID: (This is the kennel record ID of this dog's Mother) : Enter the system assigned ID number for this dogs mother. Note: You will only be able to add this number after the kennel record for this dogs mother has been added to your kennel.
The record ID for each dog can be found on the left side of your kennel list, in red. For example: ID=4. When entering these numbers, just type in the number itself, do not include the "ID=".
Picture URL:(Optional) This is the URL of this dog's picture. It must be either a .gif or .jpg file. For example: http://www.yoursite.com/picture.jpg
Notes about Picture URL:
1). When generating the vertical pedigree, the picture will appear using the size attributes that are currently defined for this picture.
2). When generating the horizontal and side-by-side pedigrees, the picture will be displayed with a width=100 and a height=100. This is done because there is not enough room on these two pedigree formats to support a very large picture.
3). If your site is currently hosted on one of those so called "free" hosting sites, it's possible that you will not be able to see your dog's picture on the pedigree when using the view/print options, but the picture will appear if you put the pedigree on your website.
Step 4 : Update your kennel records with the record ID's for each dog that will participate in the Pedigree.
Specifically, after all of your dog's have been added to your Kennel, you will need to update each record with the ID number of the father and mother. You will need to do this before you can produce the Pedigree. Once again, this is normally a one-time event; however, you can subsequently go back and change the kennel records at any time. If you wish, you can click on the Kennel Reports button, then click on the "Kennel QuickPrint" button, to produce a listing of your current kennel records; you can use this report as a guide when updating your father and mother record ID's.
After your father and mother record ID's have been added, click on the Kennel List button. You will now see a Pedigree button next to each dog that has a father and mother record ID. You can click on the Pedigree button to create your Pedigree papers and/or HTML.
If you find that the information in your Pedigree report is incorrect, you can always go back and change your Kennel records, and then rerun the Pedigree. Remember: once your Kennel has been created, you can run your Pedigree reports as many times as you wish. You may also ADD new dogs to your kennel. You can EDIT or DELETE existing dog's from your kennel at any time.
Also, please note that the last generation of dogs in your kennel are not necessarily required to have Sire and Dam records ID's.
