--On 2005-12-31 07:34:46, Recommended by rehoming centre and not tried anything else as this seems to be a good feed --Posted by: lizziel, from England (Rated 4).

Authority Harvest Baked Lamb Adult Current Rating: 3.624, Votes: 27 (Added to database on 2006-01-05 11:24:26). --On 2008-03-13 13:40:55, Authority Harvest-Baked is one of the best foods on the market! I used to work at PETsMART and spent much of my time studying the various brands' ingredients, after I learned how pet food is really made. Never mind the numerous, over-the-top glowing statements I received from customers - never once did I have someone purchase Harvest Baked after I explained the process of pet food and have them return it for any reason. Except for Eagle Pack food, this is my favorite brand and I will forever tell everyone about it! --Posted by: Joanna Reichert, from Chicago, IL (Rated 5).
--On 2007-10-30 14:29:39, I am ashamed at the crap I fed my Golden mix for the past 12 years. I swear, I did not know any better! My boy would not eat dry food unless I mixed in canned (wet) food with it (I see WHY, now). That is, until I gave him Authority Harvest Baked. Now he will eat every bite. The first time I about fell in the floor. HE ATE DRY FOOD! All these years I thought I just had a "picky" eater...I guess he just wanted something DECENT!! Poor baby. I only wish I knew earlier. --Posted by: AlabamDeb (Rated 5).
--On 2007-10-26 16:21:00, Great Dog food. My puppy suffered urinary tract infections and was told by a vet to only feed her prescription dog food. The food was 150.00 per month and I had to get it there. I switched my vet and he recommended I buy a good quality dry food. I switched to Authority Harvest Baked Lamb and she has been fine ever since! Going on three years now! I always get comments on her coat and how healthy she looks and acts. --Posted by: Mark , from Southington (Rated 5).
--On 2007-09-01 18:56:01, My dog Poncho seems to love this food. He is lean and has tons of energy! The ingredients on the front of the bag look better than some of the foods I eat! I switched from Iams to Harvest Baked over a year ago because I have heard some very not so nice things about Iams and their participation in conducting animal testing. I'm not positive about Authority but maybe I'll look into it. But, for now I hope they never stop making it so, eat up!!! --Posted by: susannah , from maryland (Rated 4).
--On 2006-11-28 14:37:47, Switched from AHB puppy food and my golden loves it. high quality ingredients- no beet pulp or corn. I feed a little less than the recommended range for his weight, and he's very active. good coat and muscular development and he's still growing! I would recommend Harvest Baked to anyone. --Posted by: LRM (Rated 5).
--On 2006-08-10 13:50:44, I got a Golden Mix from the shelter. I had my pure bred Golden and poodle on Adult Science Diet. I had heard about Authority so decided to get the Authority Puppy Brand for the new dog. He seemed to really like it. So I bought the adult dogs Authority Adult and slowly started mixing it with the Science Diet until the SD brand ran out. Then just kept them on Authority. I can say Science Diet smells more vitaminy than Authority and they do tend to 'go' more than they used to- not much more, just a bit. This tells me that the ingredients in Science Diet are better. But the dogs prefer the taste of Authority. They used to only eat a little of their science diet at a time and they now eat their entire serving immediately. The coats of all three dogs are still good. The dogs have remained healthy. So for the price, I'll stick to Authority. I used to have to mix that IAMS gravy on the Science Diet and I no longer have to do that with Authority. --Posted by: AIR, from Austin, TX (Rated 4).
--On 2006-07-17 09:12:58, This is a great dry food for dogs. My dog loves it and she is always getting compliments and how soft and shiny her coat is. --Posted by: Teri, from Tennessee (Rated 5).
--On 2006-01-05 11:47:27, I really like this food. It has kept my dogs in great shape and has wholesome, high quality ingredients. It is a great price, less than Nutro and Eukanuba with better ingredients. I feed less of it than many other brands because it has a high calorie content, 400 kcal/cup. My dogs have soft, shiny coats, and they are lean and muscular, as a healthy dog should be. I definitely recommend this food if your dogs dont have wheat allergies. --Posted by: M., from Arizona (Rated 5).

Authority Current Rating: 3.682, Votes: 29 (Added to database on 2005-07-10 23:13:49). --On 2008-04-07 13:55:14, I adopted my 6 yr old Golden from an elderly woman. When we got her she had a number of allergic reactions to her food (nose rubbing, paw licking, shedding A LOT)After a month on Authority all signs have stopped, shedding has almost stopped completely, Stool is smaller and firmer, lost weight and it's inexpensive! --Posted by: Alfred, from Shelby Twp, MI (Rated 5).
--On 2008-02-21 01:45:32, When we first got our dog she had some bald spots. We took her to the vet who did skin scrapings and could not find anything wrong with her. I decided to switch her food to Authority and her bald spots went away. It has been 3 years now and her coat looks great. I also have my cats on Authority as well. We also foster kittens and cats from our local shelter. At first they usually have very dull coats with alott of shedding and flaky skin. After a week or two on Authority they look great. I would definatly recommend this product. It also is at such a reasonable price. You can't beat it. --Posted by: Colleen, from Santa Clarita, Ca (Rated 5).
--On 2007-04-02 12:37:13, I bought my Golden Retriever four years ago and followed the breeder's suggestion to use Authority. I compared nutritional content and it is better than others. Although hip displasia isn't a genetic factor for my dog, I used the lamb variety during his puppy days as a safeguard. I like the variety of adult Authority dry food. My dog's coat is beautiful and he has no health problems.I recently adopted a cat and I will change to Authority for her as well, if available. --Posted by: Mary, from North Carolina (Rated 5).
--On 2006-09-05 13:30:27, I've been feeding Authority Lamb to my dogs and won't feed anything else. I recently adopted a Doxie from the H.S. and her coat was dull and had some bare spots. I mixed Authority in until I got her switched totally and now her coat is bright and has no bare spots. I swear by this product! --Posted by: Pam, from Joplin, MO (Rated 5).
--On 2006-06-29 20:37:10, I have been feeding my golden Authority Harvest Baked Chicken (Adult) for about one year now. I went through several other foods with him before I found this food. Many of the other foods were very expensive, had poor ingredients, and were not as good for his coat and stools. The ingredients in Authority Harvest Baked Chicken flavor are very hight quality - no bi-products! It is made with REAL chicken and several different vegetables. This is an excellent food at a very reasonable price. --Posted by: Leanne (Rated 5).
--On 2006-05-16 07:10:43, I recently brought Authority home for our new golden retriever puppy and all all seems well. I was recommended by several people. --Posted by: Robin, from Indepedence, MO USA (Rated 5).
--On 2006-01-18 03:55:27, I have been using Authority since my dog was a puppy with good results. I also have an older dog and feed her Authority Senior which has helped with her digestion. She had a problem throwing up but this seems to do the trick. This food is the same price as the Purina One that we were using so it was a great inexpensive swich. --Posted by: Emily Andrews (Rated 5).
--On 2006-01-05 12:13:54, After looking around at different dog foods available in my area we settled on Authority Large Breed Puppy for our pup. He did very well on this food and stayed at a healthy weight. The food is cheaper than Nutro and has very similar (if not better) ingredients. This is a really good food. --Posted by: M, from Arizona (Rated 4).
--On 2005-12-18 16:17:03, after adopting our retriever from a shelter 5 months ago, we used Nutro(recommended by the shelter and vet). We switched to Authority after seeing similar ingredients, plus having problems with very liquidy stool with nutro. Now stool is easier to clean up (my greatest concern.lol) and happy with ingredient listing showing. and very happy that it is typically twice as cheap as Nutro. --Posted by: Brian S, from Chagrin Falls, Oh (Rated 5).
--On 2005-12-01 09:07:15, I have used Authority dog food since I have had my Golden. He has never had a runny or soft stool, it minimizes his stool, his weight is healthy along with his skin and coat. I am always getting compliments on what a gorgeous Golden Retriever I have. --Posted by: Kelly, from Dallas,TX (Rated 5).
--On 2005-07-10 23:24:06, During puppy cl# the instructor talked about different kinds of foods. She said the first 3 ingredients are the most important. She recommended Authority and ever since many people have commented on her coat. Even the vet asked what kind of food I feed her. At first I thought she was just recommending it because it was a petsmart brand and we were at petsmart. But 15 months later she looks and acts great. She will always remain on this brand. --Posted by: Chris Moore, from Norton,Ohio (Rated 5).

Avo Derm Natural Oven Baked Lamb & Brown Rice Current Rating: 3.5, Votes: 6 (Added to database on 2007-01-30 19:15:39). --On 2007-11-13 19:46:30, My new 5 yo GR loves it compared to Iams and the ingredients are superior. He needs less food and the clean up is less but the odor is terrible. --Posted by: Jenfay, from San Antonio, TX (Rated 3).
--On 2007-01-31 07:50:52, This is made with avacado, our GR has not experienced any skin/ear problems since he's been on it. No difficulty with digestion either. --Posted by: MurphsMum (Rated 5).

Back To Basics Chicken Current Rating: 3.666, Votes: 3 (Added to database on 2006-11-26 14:11:48). --On 2007-11-14 10:11:22, Beowulf Back to Basics was recommended by breeder and has been the only food for my golden - age 7 and now for my golden pup. It is solid, has all the necessary ingredients without filler and has never appeared on a recall list. The breeder's dogs are show dogs, very healthy and live very long lives (one age 17). That speaks for itself. --Posted by: Judy Kalakos, from Pittsburgh PA (Rated 5).

Beneful Current Rating: 2.549, Votes: 27 (Added to database on 2005-08-12 15:28:13). --On 2008-03-31 19:42:08, DOGS and CHILDREN will like and eat ANYTHING. There is BIG PROFIT and LITTLE nutrients. OUR food is filled with antibotics, hormones, pesticides and DYE...if you want to eat this fine BUT PLEASE, don't feed it to a loyal, loving animal! They don't know about BIG BUSINESS and PROFIT, they TRUST YOU to make good decisions for them, just like children. RESEARCH THE INGREDIENTS ONLINE!!How much LONGER could they live with HEALTHY FOOD? --Posted by: TEG, from USA W Palm Beach (Rated 1).
--On 2008-03-23 10:10:44, I have an 11 yr old Golden that was on Beneful for a couple years. This past year her hair coat got dry and scaly and she was scratching a lot. I switched her over to Natures Choice for Seniors. Her haircoat improved 100%25 and she is more active. --Posted by: pat (Rated 1).
--On 2008-02-25 19:12:36, I have a 3yr old male golden retriever. I tried everthing with him and Beneful seems to be the one that works. He's lean 75 lbs, with a beautiful coat and once he started eating Beneful became even more active. Even my local feed stores starting carrying it after going to dog food trade show --Posted by: Randee, from New Jersey (Rated 5).
--On 2007-01-16 18:26:35, People--read the nutrition label, understand the definitions of the ingredients, then perhaps you'll see that this food is not healthy. --Posted by: SJR, from USA-Green Bay, WI (Rated 1).
--On 2006-09-25 14:01:36, This food is just awful. It's made mostly of corn, which is not good for a carnivore! Wheat and soy are also high on the ingredient list and they are well known allergens. Not to mention the menadione bisulfite which has been removed from good dog foods after being shown to cause severe health problems. And then there's also the artificial colors(Yellow 5, Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 2). Don't forget about the added salt and sugar also.... overall this is one of the worst foods out there. It's the perfect diet if you'd like your dog to have red itchy skin, ear infections, allergies and hot spots. :( --Posted by: Tamara (Rated 1).
--On 2006-09-25 01:08:25, Terrible food, there isn't any meat in it! The ingredients and quality of ingredients are disgusting. There are better grocery store foods out there. My grandma's shih tzu won't eat anything else, and she now has cancer, kidney stones, UTIs, skin problems, and she's overweight even though she recieves alot of exercise. --Posted by: Jordan, from Kelowna, BC, Canada (Rated 1).
--On 2006-08-10 12:17:37, Beneful is one of the worst foods besides Iams, Ol Roy, & Mighty Dog! Beneful is full of fillers (wheat, soy, corn, peanut hulls) that have no nutritional value. Better foods include: Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold. Please give your dog a chance at a healthy life and don't force them to eat crappy foods. --Posted by: Amanda (Rated 1).
--On 2006-06-30 08:36:10, I had my dog on this food for several years; before I took the time to look at the ingredients. His allergies were way out of control, his coat was dry and flaky, he started licking his paws constantly. Well, I have changed to a ultra premium brand and within 3 weeks he is a happier, healthier dog. Do Not buy this food. --Posted by: Carole, from ISpringfield, IL (Rated 1).
--On 2006-06-16 08:17:38, I have been mixing Iams Active Maturity and Purina's Beneful at about 50/50 for several years now. When Beneful recently offered the "Healthy Radiance" blend, I switched to that for their claimed skin benefits. However, my 6-yr old Golden has recently developed very flaky skin and I'm wondering if it is the new Beneful? My 12-yr old black Lab has not been affected. They are both spayed females in otherwise good health. --Posted by: DebB, from Michigan (Rated 3).
--On 2006-05-08 18:02:06, On my experience this food has done more harm than good..It dry's out the coat and causes weight gain....To much grain not enough meat... We are feeding carnivores not vegetarians!!!! --Posted by: Danielle, from Idaho (Rated 1).
--On 2006-04-25 14:38:19, We have a Golden puppy, and she seems to really like it. It is small, and is in different shapes so she seems to enjoy it. --Posted by: Elise Morris, from missouri (Rated 4).

--On 2006-02-01 08:29:40, I was looking into it (along with many other foods) and I saw the ingredients. It isn't much different from the rest of the cheap dog foods. It is full of stuff like chicken by-products and fats which are really bad for your dog (even though they don't tell you). Even with the veggies in it, I still wouldn't use it. --Posted by: Kate (Rated 5).

Bil-Jac Current Rating: 2.932, Votes: 34 (Added to database on 2004-03-27 18:18:58). --On 2007-06-18 06:38:41, Dogs loved the food at first but quickly grew tired of it. The molasses probably enticed them initially. The kibble looks like rabbit pellets and my large dogs had trouble with it. This food is corn and by-product based and still uses chemical preservatives instead of the natural preservatives that most other manufacturers now use. The food is way behind the times. Lastly, Bil-Jac's customer service was without a doubt the worst I have ever dealt with. For me, this speaks volumes about a company. --Posted by: Daniel, from USA, Ohio (Rated 1).
--On 2007-05-30 23:53:56, This food has too much sugar in it, which entices dogs to eat it. Sugar is not healthy for dogs at all.The other ingredients are not all that great either, if you are looking for something with real meat, check out EVO by Innova or Wolf King by Solid Gold. There are others out there like the ones I listed that are much more nutritionally healthy for our pets.EVO also costs the same as Bil-Jac in my area, which I found surprising as the ingredients are hugely different. EVO having:Ingredients:Turkey, Chicken, Turkey Meal, Chicken Meal, Potatoes, Herring Meal, Chicken Fat, Natural Flavors, Egg, Garlic, Apples, Carrots, Tomatoes, Cottage Cheese, Alfalfa Sprouts, Dried Chicory Root, Taurine, Lecithin, Rosemary Extract, Vitamins/Minerals, Viable Naturally Occurring Microorganisms Guaranteed Analysis %25:Protein %0942 Fat %0922 Moisture %0910 Fiber %092.5 --Posted by: Dog Lover (Rated 2).
--On 2007-04-02 14:39:53, Having compared the ingredients on many different dog foods I really like Bil-Jac. Although chicken by-products are listed as an ingredient, it is organs only, which are not harmful to dogs. I've fed this food to my 3 dogs now for over 3 years, and they still love it and are all healthy weight with beautiful coats! In fact my vet was shocked when we told him that one of my dogs is 11 years old, he looks like a puppy! Not too mention, with the pet food recall going on, I'm really glad that Bil-Jac doesn't use any products from Menu foods! --Posted by: Katie (Rated 5).
--On 2007-01-16 18:13:03, More meat than any other food.....? LOL!!!! You obviously don't know how to read & evaluate dog food ingredients & labels. If you did, you would clearly see that this food has horrible ingredients & certainly does NOT possess any healthful benefits for canines. I had this discussion with an ignorant Bil-Jac sales rep who had no clue about the ingredients in this food. I also e-mailed the company, with a detailed analysis of this food, showing them the fallaciousness of their advertising, & I never heard back from them--they know what I said is right! --Posted by: SJR, from USA-Green Bay, WI (Rated 1).
--On 2006-07-19 10:56:43, We have a 2 year old Golden and he has been using Bil Jac since he was a puppy. Recently we started giving him Wellness fish and Sweet Potato along with the Bil Jac. He is doing great with both of these, but I contribute his wonderful, shiny coat to Dream Coat. If you haven't tried it.....please do. It is remarkable. He looks beautiful and doesn't shed as much. --Posted by: Katie, from Central Florida (Rated 4).
--On 2006-07-13 18:57:50, Bil Jac is a wonderful food! It has more meat than anything else out there, so your dog is getting more of what it needs and more of what it wants. The corn that's in there is highly digestible because it is the only dog food on the market that actually cooks it. There's not enough of any preservative in there to hurt a healthy dog. It turned my overweight, allergic nightmare practically back into a puppy. I wouldn't feed anything else! --Posted by: Jessica (Rated 5).
--On 2006-03-20 12:49:40, We have fed BilJac for 12 years to six different dogs. We consider it the ONLY food because it has more fresh meat than any other dog food. Our dogs have wonderful show coats and never have had one tire of it. Soft stools are never a problem unless overfeeding. We highly recommend it! --Posted by: Jim, from Wisconsin (Rated 5).
--On 2006-02-15 19:56:04, We have been using this dog food for about a year and half because our two Bichon's suffer with allergies and it was recommended. The upside was that our senior weenie finally lost some weight, however one Bichon still suffers with horrible hot spots.Since I needed puppy food for the new baby Golden, I'm going to try everybody out on Authority. Puppy will get Authority large breed and the Bichons will get adult small bites, mixed with the BilJac until they are used to it. Reading these comments really helped me make the decision to try another food. Thank you. --Posted by: Debbie (Rated 3).
--On 2005-11-11 08:01:09, We first purchased Bil-Jac Dry Puppy food while attending a regional dog show in Perry, GA in September. We have used it for almost two months for our six Yorkies, and noticed that stools are soft, and sometimes runny in 4 of the 6 dogs, and one dog seems to have developed some kind of irritation from it, as she is now showing signs of IBS (bloody stool, and diarreah all the time. I changed her back yesterday to her old brand which is Royal Canin #28, and NO runs in the pen this morning, nice and solid for the first time in over a month (sorry to be so graphic) but we have never seen such watery stools from any of our dogs before. I just read the label on the Bil-Jac bag (bought 35 lbs of it, and found out it had the BHA in it. This additive might be what is causing the problem, but can't be sure could be the sugar.) I sure do feel stupid for purchasing so much instead of testing my dogs with a small bag first. I am going to go back with the Royal Canine today, so will be out the money I paid on the new bag of Bil-Jac I purchased last weekend...This experience was an expensive lesson to learn, and I hope someone else will benefit from it. The last thing anyone needs in their kennel is to keep washing down the runs three and four times a day. Wonder if I call the toll free number on the bag they will give me my money back???Georgie --Posted by: georgie, from Athens GA (Rated 1).
--On 2005-06-30 18:16:30, Low quality food at premium price. Too many other quality products available to waste time with this iams clone --Posted by: Renee Hall, from Bethlehem (Rated 3).
--On 2005-06-09 06:18:34, Bil-Jac has cane mollases, AKA sugar- that's the only reason dogs eat it. Corn is also hard to digest, that means more out the other end! Definitely not a good choice! --Posted by: Janine (Rated 1).
--On 2005-02-20 07:25:23, Sorry but there is no way that a food that is preserved with BHA or BHT is going to be fed to my dogs. Dogs go for this food because of the moll#es in it which is another reason that I would not feed it. --Posted by: Rich in goldens (Rated 2).

Biologicaly Appropriate Raw Food (B.A.R.F.) Current Rating: 3.863, Votes: 15 (Added to database on 2006-01-03 20:04:22). --On 2008-04-18 21:50:25, My golden died at the age of 10 and for 4.5 years of that she ate raw. The last few years she didn't as she was living with my parents who refused to feed raw. She of course had terrible ear infections and red yeast coming out of her paws, ears, tear ducts, and mouth whenever she ate anything buy raw for more than a month. I wish I had been able to keep her with me her whole life so she could could get all the beneficial bacteria/enzymes that are in raw meat not to mention the vitamins and minerals that have not been cooked out. --Posted by: Katie, from Springfield, OR (Rated 5).
--On 2007-10-24 17:47:52, My two 2 year old Goldens have been on the raw diet for over a year now and I am a firm believer. They are always at an ideal weight, have wonderful coats, beautiful white teeth, and no bad breath. As I work out of town quite often for weeks at a time my girlfriend sometimes takes care of them and on occasion, because the raw diet "grosses her out," she will feed them the Eukanuba Adult Large Breed Lamb and Rice. EVERY time she does this both dogs get some type of sever skin rash that requires vet attention. I am not out to bash Eukanuba but that seems to be the only change whenever the skin rashes occur. When I am home both dogs go months at a time without any skin disorders at all. We argue constantly about this. My dogs especially love the lamb, chicken, and occasional pork and beef I get from local farms that I know and trust. --Posted by: Eric, from Cleveland, OH, USA (Rated 5).
--On 2007-01-06 05:19:18, I fed all my dogs this diet for 7 years and swore by it. Then I had a seemenly healthy 5 year oldGerman Shepard drop dead without warning. He had been taking medication for salmonilla in his digestive system. The autoposy showed Ecoli and salmonilla present in large quan#ies. The only explaination is the raw food, probably contaminated at the meat packing houses. Al I thought about this it made sense that this diet is good for wild animals who kill and immediately eat their food. If we feed it as raw food the contaminates introducred at a packing house are not killed by cooking. I feel this diet is the main cause of my dogs death and now will cook any meat products i feed. I also had a problem with bone chips in another dogs intestines, and yes, the bones were raw. I almost lost that dog also. --Posted by: simon (Rated 1).
--On 2006-06-08 23:38:50, A raw food diet is the only one my dogs have ever gotten. Processed food, regardless of the ingredients, remains PROCESSED food, which can never have the quality of a fresh, meat-based diet. --Posted by: S. Simon, from Germany (Rated 5).
--On 2006-05-11 23:49:02, my golden retriever mix was on the brink of death at ten years old when I threw away the highly rated dog food and switched her to the BARF diet. This saved her and we got an extra four happy years out of her. People commented on how she became a puppy again. She started rolling in the grass once again (especially after every bone), her eyes cleared, her coat became thick and shiny and she started acting how she did when she was a teenager. Her teeth no longer had tarter/plaque and her breath never smelled again until the day she died. Her vet asked what we've been doing because she looked so great. I will NEVER feed my dogs "dog food" again. It is a killer. --Posted by: janeen, from phoenix, az (Rated 5).
--On 2006-01-14 05:53:10, great if it works, add probiotics and be ready for a slower weight gain. my pup looked very very thin on this method, i switched him back to kibble, but now we're back on raw (3 days) because of allergies to rice, wheat, oats, barley, etc. --Posted by: ej+cj, from oronto, canada (Rated 4).
--On 2006-01-12 12:10:43, I was a little hesitant about this, but three vets and two breeders later I have to admit I'm amazed. Not only is his energy and enthusiam amazing, but his coat and teeth shine, no bad breath and stools are small and twice a day. I'm a believer! --Posted by: Cynsation (Lakota's Mom), from Blaine, MN (Rated 5).

Everyone seemed to like the food at first but they quickly grew tired of it. The extra small kibble size made it dfficult for them to eat also. Skin and coat were fine but poop volume increased on this diet. Overall, I would just rate it a so-so. --Posted by: Daniel, from Ohio, USA (Rated 3).
--On 2006-04-09 15:57:33, My two Goldens have been on "Catfish and Potatoes" (no wheat or corn)for several months. Their skin is much improved, but there is a higher fat content so had to cut down on volume. They really like it. --Posted by: Jennifer (Rated 5).

--On 2005-12-21 21:47:41, After adopting my darling dog from the shelter, I even tried to feed him Science Diet & IAMS which always ended in a total disaster. He liked Blackwood's 2000 straight out - it has helped him gain weight, improved his coat tremendously & reduce the smell of his fesis. Am very pleased! --Posted by: Janis, from Malaysia (Rated 5).

California Natural Current Rating: 4.043, Votes: 21 (Added to database on 2004-01-17 10:15:12). --On 2008-03-23 11:33:04, My Golden was allergic to the a,b,c's - alfalfa, barley, chicken, carrots, corn, soy, white potato, and venison. Try finding a food without any of those. California Natural fit the bill. And he loves it. --Posted by: bookwoman, from Canton, MI (Rated 5).
--On 2007-12-07 20:55:38, I have two goldens - one hypothyroid with both food and environmental allergies and one without any problems. Both like this food very much(we use chicken and rice since he is allergic to lamb) and allergy problems have subsided substantially. Higher protein foods like Innova and Wellness caused terrible diarrhea - this one didn't. --Posted by: Laurie, from California (Rated 5).
--On 2007-06-04 21:51:23, Switched my Golden to this after 7 years on a dry brand, and trying to provide healthier diet. Started with lamb & rice and battled daily mushy runny poops, so bad I had to hose her off every single time before letting her into the house. Talked to Calif Natural's "vet" on the phone who suggested the chicken and rice formula, so tried that with identical results. I'm still hosing her off several times a day. I really tried to give this food a chance because of all the glowing recommendations, but it's been two months and my Golden simply can't tolerate it, and I think we just need to go back to the old food. This must be making her miserable and I feel like a terrible mom. --Posted by: Star's Mom (Rated 1).
--On 2006-10-21 00:14:00, My golden had a reduction in skin allergies and ear infections for her first year of using the Lamb & Rice formula. She then developed an allergy to the food, we assume the lamb, and had a horrible bout of vomitting and other unpleasant symptoms each time we tried to reintroduce her food. She is now on Natural Balance Duck and Potato and doing great. --Posted by: BeachBlonde (Rated 3).
--On 2006-09-25 01:14:12, One of the only foods my dog did not have loose stools on, and a food she actually enjoyed eating. She gained weight on this food nicely. She started itching a couple weeks after switching so she didn't stay on it. I know alot of people who've had success on CN though. Not alot of ingredients, goog for dogs with allergies -- though the fact that one of the ingredients, wheat, is the most common allergen, is kind of crappy. --Posted by: Jordan, from Kelowna, BC, Canada (Rated 4).
--On 2006-04-17 12:32:34, Our golden, Rylee, is allergic to soybeans, corn, and barley. She has been on this food since her first bacterial infection at 7 weeks of age. She has done very well on this food and likes it very well. I would recommend this food to anyone whose dog has food allergies. --Posted by: Debbie, from Port Edwards, WI (Rated 5).
--On 2005-08-26 16:11:43, My puppy was eating IAMS lamb and rice and wasn't eating all of her food, and now after switching to California Natural, she eats all of her food because I'm #uming it taste good, and her coat is looking a lot better! --Posted by: Nancy (Rated 5).
--On 2005-08-26 16:08:44, this food is the best for our golden who had IBD, we always get compliments about his coat, and how healthy he looks. In terms of taste, it's hard for me to say cause he loves to eat everything, but we're switching our newly adopted senior golden to it and she'd previously been on IAMS lamb and rice. --Posted by: Arnold, from Austin, TX (Rated 5).
--On 2005-08-01 14:46:37, My golden retriever , Harper, suffered from skin allergies for the first year and a half of his life (he's 3 now)As a puppy our vet thought he had food allergies, so he was placed on a very expensive diet of prescription food called Z/D. Then after speaking with many other owners of "allergic dogs" we weened him off of Z/D and onto California Natural. He also takes diphenhydramine 3xday ( summer months only) and has been skin rash free for over a year now. We love this food , and Harper has never gotten sick of it!! --Posted by: Lauren, from Burlington, VT, USA (Rated 5).
--On 2005-07-20 07:15:02, California Natural Lamb Meal and Rice caused my Golden to develop colitus. I changed his diet completly and he no longer has colitus or any other food allergy symptoms. I do not recommend this food. I found pieces of Lamb Hair in the food! My pup is allergic to wool, among other things and the hair in the 'premium' food was making him sick. --Posted by: Tobies momma, from usa (Rated 1).
--On 2005-06-30 18:19:12, Food good quality for allergy testing. Low ingredient count helps with allergy identification. As a forever food, another higher quality product would be better, but for isolation, this is one of the better foods of this kind available. --Posted by: Renee Hall, from Bethlehem (Rated 4).

Tried everything then at about 2 I was referred to California Natural. What a difference it made!! In his skin ..coat..and WOW as a plus twice a day NONstinky stool. --On 2007-11-09 22:00:14, Switched all four of my (large) dogs, Malamute mixes, Dane mixes, etc., to Canidae after the dog food scare. After they've been n Canidea for three months they have horrioble skin problems and for the first time, they smell like "dog." Getting them off this. Remember, not everything works on everyone. --Posted by: Liz, from Vegas, USA (Rated 2).
--On 2007-09-19 14:12:28, I have a 6 month old golden boy and I have been feeding him Canidae chicken and rice ALS. This is what the breeder was using. His coat is beautiful, he is growing at a nice rate. He is very proportional, and his teeth are beautiful. He does have gas and he scratches most of the time. He has no marks, no scabs, no fleas, no mites, my vet can't figure it out. Any idea's out there. --Posted by: Fran Arsena, from Cary NC (Rated 5).
--On 2007-09-16 22:15:46, I was dealing with allergies with my lab since he was a puppy. Very loose stools. and bad gas . I mean bad. He could clear a room! the only food that half worked was Natural balance but still was his stool was a bit soft and the duck gave him gas. Went to the fish instead of duck and that made his breath smell :( And of course there was a recall with the venison. Then my golden retriever pup started getting scabs on his belly and under his arms. Scratching like crazy. He was eating Pro plan as the Natural balance made his stool loose. So i took a jump and went for the canidae lamb for both of them. My labs stool is the firmest I have ever seen and my Golden's scabs are almost gone! I LOVE this food. They don't have it in my town but I will be buying it online from now on. --Posted by: leslie , from state college pa (Rated 5).
--On 2007-08-16 09:47:22, My 5 month old rescue golden puppy was on Nutro and didn't really like it. I switched him to Canidae All Life Stages and he loved the taste and his coat is beautiful. I always get comments on it. Over the past month, I have noticed that his is softer, he rubs his face on the couch or carpet at leat once a day after eating and he nibbles himself a lot. He is always pooping avg 4 times a day. After doing a lot of research, I feel he may have a food allergy, possibly chicken. I am considering switching to Canidae Lamb and Rice. Has anyone had this similar experience or have any advice? --Posted by: Ashley (Rated 3).
--On 2007-08-04 09:49:56, I started giving my new golden Auuthority puppy formula with lamb and rice and she had very loose stool. The tack and feed place recommended Canidae and since then she is so much happier. Her stool is normal, her coat is soft and she is full of energy. Now 6 months old, she eats Canidae in a matter of seconds. Someone saw her in the pet store one day and asked me what I feed her and said they wanted to switch as well. This food is great, all natural and contains no wheat or corn which is very important for goldens. --Posted by: Lisar630 (Rated 5).
--On 2007-08-02 11:02:37, Switched from Royal Canin. Canidae is much better. Easier to chew....no gas problems...picture perfect stool. Shiny coat. Dogs loves it.!!!! --Posted by: Stu, from Farmington, MI (Rated 5).
--On 2007-05-16 08:41:20, I visited this site a couple months ago trying to find a solution to my 6 year old Golden Retriever's problems. I decided to give the dry Canidae Lamb and Rice a try. What a difference, she is so much better! Within a couple weeks of starting this food, she seemed more healthy and happy. No more globs of fur on the carpet - actually, she hardly sheds at all now. Her itching has stopped and her skin isn't dry and flaky anymore. She still bites at the bottom of her feet some (allergies), but not nearly as much as she was. She loves the taste, no gas or upset, and we feed less, so it lasts a long time. We had been feeding her some of the brands that we thought were good: Science Diet, Iams etc...but after researching, dicovered they aren't that good for her. I would highly recommend Canidae! --Posted by: Betsy, from Michigan (Rated 5).
--On 2007-04-20 10:33:20, I switched my 9 Month Golden Retriever and 2 Year Collie over to Canidae Lamb and Rice, their Coats are great and they absolutely love this food. They were on Innova which is great food, gave them very bad gas. --Posted by: Jeremiah, from Colorado Springs (Rated 5).

--On 2007-01-24 13:03:25, I bought Canidae for my new puppy and we were in & out of the vet's office with digestive problems for 3 months. The vet thought she might have a sensitive tummy and recommended Purina One Puppy Lamb & Rice and she has been doing great ever since with no problems at all. Canidae didn't work out well for us. --Posted by: MH, from Kansas (Rated 1).
--On 2007-01-17 05:15:31, I switched my golden ret. puppy an d german shepherd to Candiae all life stages. What an amazing difference in both dogs!My golden was on Nutro max from the breeder and was always itching and her coat was dull. My german shepherd was pro plan chicken and he was lathargic and his coat was also dull. This food changed both their lives for the better! Now the golden is not scratching at all her coat is gorgeous and shiny and full of energy. My shepherds coat is shiny not flaky full of energy and also. They are not having any problems with loose stools and i have less to pick up in the yard. From doing my own research on this website and others i am greatful to all who posted on here.Read the ingredients and do some research it really pays off! What a great food for my loves of my life! --Posted by: Christina, from Bayport, NY (Rated 5).
--On 2007-01-15 19:28:58, We switched to Canidae on the advice of a salesperson at our local pet store. Within 2 weeks, our golden was free of his dry itchy skin and the torment of a hot spot on his tail. We now also have a year old female golden who has had Canidae since we brought her home. Both dogs have beautiful coats and enjoy meal time. I told a friend about this food, as his golden was acting old and lame, he was pleased at how the dog came around and lived 2 more years with less pain and more energy. Try it! --Posted by: Lori, from Michigan (Rated 5).
--On 2006-12-20 13:35:42, I can't say enough about Canidae for all ages. I have a 3 yr old Golden, a 3 yr old Lab and a 10 yr old Terrier mix. The Terrier was on a very expensive food for her allergies. When Canidae was recommended to me by a Kennel owner in North East PA, I was skeptical that anything could be that great. I tried it on the big dogs and they loved it! It seemed too good to be truel. But I decided to see what would happen if I gave it to the food sensitive Terrier. WOW! Not only did she love it, but she stopped scratching, no more hair disappeared and the bald spots are now completely covered with a healthy coat of hair. All I can say is GREAT!!!! And having my pack eating only one food is a plus also. --Posted by: Marilyn, from Germantown, Tennessee (Rated 5).
--On 2006-11-06 15:09:35, We have our 5 month old male Golden on Canidae's new Lamb and Rice. He is doing wonderful! I believe he has an allergy/reaction to chicken, so several other foods that we tried resulted in loose or watery stools. He did OK on Solid Gold Hund-N-Flocken about 90%25 of the time. After they switched formulas, it was a good time to switch foods. On the Canidae Lamb, every stool is solid an no gas, etc. Probably way more info than one needs, but if you are like we were, and are searching for a cure for tummy ailments, this might be helpful. Our pup also loves the taste and his skin and ears are perfect and his coat is very thick and healthy. --Posted by: Kathleen, from Wisconsin (Rated 5).
--On 2006-11-01 13:27:08, My Golden just loves this food!I have tried Purina Pro Plan in the past with him but his appe#e for it was average at best. Now on Canidae it's about twice as strong.I looked at various brands on the market and feel that Canidae's approach with no fillers and solid nutritional ingredients is best.I am a lifelong customer at this point. It may be hard to find in some areas but it is worth it if you can find it. --Posted by: David, from St. Louis,MO (Rated 5).
--On 2006-10-19 13:28:45, I got my dog from a K-9 school. The trainer recommended Canidea but I could not find it. After my golden started suffering from skin problems, I hunted it down. Great results! No more skin problems! This food is amazing. --Posted by: Donean, from Beaumont, Texas (Rated 5).
--On 2006-09-18 09:59:35, We rescued a Chocolate Lab recently that had serious problems with diarreha, dandruff, and coarse, dull, & stiff fur that all went away within a few weeks of changing her diet from Nutro Max to Canidae. She loves it! The only problem is a really bad case of doggy breath. Has anyone else had this problem? --Posted by: Judi Gambaro, from Mount Clemens, MI (Rated 4).
--On 2006-07-09 11:01:02, When I got my new rescue Golden, he had a bad case of dandruff. After switching him to Canidae, that went away and he has a beautiful, soft, shiny red coat now. The store where I get it told me that, while it's a very good food, some dogs just don't like the taste. Fortunately, mine digs it! --Posted by: Paige, from Hudson Valley, NY (Rated 5).
--On 2006-05-16 14:17:39, My 4-yr old golden Maddie is doing very well with Candidae Platinum. Tried Innova Evo but she was gaining weight too quickly and had loose stools. Then tried Sold Gold which gave her bad gas and stools were still loose. Now she gets Candidae Platinum with 2TB of can mixed into the kibble. She loves it and has no gas with solid, regular stools. And her weight seems to have evened out again. Highly recommended! --Posted by: Robyn Mendelsohn, from Palatine, IL (USA) (Rated 5).

--On 2006-03-16 09:46:45, My breeder feeds all of her goldens Canidae so when we got our golden puppy from her we kept him on it..he's now 3 years old and very healthy. I got my sister to switch her dog to it too..before that he was on special food for stomache problems, but now has no problems with Canidae. --Posted by: Pam, from Northville, NY (Rated 5).
--On 2006-03-01 12:02:05, I love Canidae all stages. We have 3 dogs: a golden 2 yrs, a lab mix 2 yrs and a terrier mix 7 yrs. The terrier was on a specialty food because of allergies, respiratory and skin. While boarding the dogs at a kennel in North East, PA last year, the owner suggested Canidae because he felt it did not have a tendency to expand in the stomach and was made with almost no filler. He said he had found that it was so well tolerted that no upsets occurred even when switching suddenly. Feeding time at our place is crazy with each trying to get the other's food. So I put them all on Canidae a year ago. We haven't had a moment's trouble. They all look and feel great and the terrier's allergies have disappeared. I am a customer for life! --Posted by: Marilyn Neenan, from Germantown, Tennessee (Rated 5).
--On 2006-02-20 08:09:43, After purchasing our Golden who was raised on Iams (from our breeder) I began researching for the best food for him. I didn't want him to have just "any" food. According to the ingredients, Innova seemed the best choice. However, when I went to purchase Innova, the sales person at San Dimas Feed and Grain suggested I try Canidae and we then compared the ingredients between the two foods together. Canidae is missing a couple of vegetables that Innova includes but our Sunny loves fresh vegetables so that wasn't a deal-killer, he gets fresh what Canidae didn't include (better I think). The deal-maker was it was very close to Innova in quality ingredients but less expensive. It is available locally here and in Bullhead (our second residence) so we went with Canidae. Our Sunny has a lovely rich coat (our friends constantly comment on this)and he (now 6 months old) has energy to spare. But what Golden doesn't? :)I recommend this food, they have done a thorough job combining what I feel is best for our precious pup. Our vet agreed. --Posted by: Bob, from San Dimas, CA (Rated 5).

THEN we switched her to Timberwolf, which turned her into a slow old grandma with major groans and bad farts. (At less than 1yr old) Now she is back to Canidae and all her returned zest for life is a daily charm. --Posted by: Cedar, from Seattle, WA (Rated 5).
--On 2005-06-27 17:52:19, Our puppy's very picky breeder only feeds her dogs Canidae, but when we got the pup home we opted for Nutro out of convenience. We are sure it was from eating Hills Prescription Diet C/D Feline dry cat food, even though the vet assured us the cat food was not recalled. We are sure because that is all the cat ever ate since his urinary problems started several years ago. Prior to that he still only ate dry cat food, no scraps or anything else ever, his entire life of 10 years. The vet kept asking if there was any poison the cat could be getting into each time we brought him back. I checked the house repeatedly, but there was nothing that could have caused it. We paid thousands of dollars to try and save him, but when he came home and was able to eat dry cat food again he again became very ill and died in the veterinary hospital. The vet advised us that his liver was swollen and he had kidney failure when we took him back. The FDA is looking into it, but so far no one is taking any responsibility for it. The vet "lost" the cat food we gave them for testing and we provided them more, but we still have no results. My wife and I are both disabled and this has been a nightmare, trying to save our beloved cat. We miss him dearly, his name was Blue. --Posted by: Michael and Doris (Rated 5).
--On 2007-03-16 22:10:00, Our cat is in the hospital. He has been vomiting and refuses to eat. The vet says blood ck levels are high, and thinks it may be intestinal, since bladder was negative. Asked us if we had any poison around here. The cat is "anorexic" and has to be force-fed baby food. His body is digesting the fat which the vet says is causing liver disease/clogging-up the liver. I am not sure, but my cat has been on $40-a-bag Hills Prescription Diet Cat C/D for years (this vet put the cat on it). Could this be what the problem is? Can't find anything on the Diamond Website about it. --Posted by: michael and doris (Rated 5).

I would recomend going natural to any young or old dog owner, it has so many benefits. However once you go natural, you should stay with it. My golden had a tough time when Eagle had a supply shortage and we had to give her "normal" can food for a few days. Her stomach could not tolerate all the preservatives. Another great feature about Eagle is their variety, I rotate through the flavors each time she goes throgh a case of can food. --On 2006-08-02 14:53:10, Warning to pup and young Golden owners feeding any food with wheat and or corn. Goldens are very prone to skin allergies that are painful and expensive and recurring. While this may be a fine food for other breeds, not Goldens. My male Golden Henry didn't develop allergies til he was about 1.5 years old. I had fed him Iams then Eukenuba thinking they were the fancy brands. After three straight years of terrible skin irritation and vet bills, I researched for better food without cheap grains and found Innova. It's a great food with great ingredients and we've had no allergies for three years - except one time when I bought Iams lamb and rice biscuits and the allergies came back temporarily. --Posted by: Jennifer Henion, from Crescent City, California (Rated 2).

Perhaps starting here http://www.iamstruth.com/iamstruth/en_US/jhtmls/article/IT_Article_Page.jhtml?li=en_US&pti=RP&articleID=6Then proceeding to research PETA and the damage they do. --Posted by: Jamie Veraldi, from Canada (Rated 5).
--On 2006-02-20 20:16:21, My 12 wk old golden pup absolutely LOVES this food. her coat is beautiful, she's developing wonderfully and her stools are always nice and firm...unless she eats some part of a toy. she's been on it since she was weaned, and there have never been any problems. i don't think she chews it half the time b/c she just can't wait to get it! anyone looking to switch foods should really realize that in order to not give a huge kick to the pup's system that they need to introduce the new feed slowly. this may have been some of the trouble w/ those who had big problems after switching to any new feed. --Posted by: Kristi, from rochester, mn (Rated 5).
--On 2006-01-30 21:02:26, My 6 month old Golden pup has been on Eukanuba since he was 8 weeks. His coat, agility, teeth, and brain are all way above average. Its a strong food and may be too much for some puppie's stomachs. Its a good idea to use this food if you want a smart dog but you may want to mix it half and half with a lamb and rice formula to be softer on his stomach and help with his bowel movements. --Posted by: Rob Drum, from Baltimore MD (Rated 4).
--On 2006-01-15 15:25:03, My Golden was on this food when I adopted him at 10ms. His coat wasn't shiny and he would only graze. I switched him to Purina One Lamb and Rice and his coat has improved greatly and he cleans his plate!! --Posted by: Amanda, from Newbury,VT (Rated 2).

--On 2006-01-01 15:47:13, We used this food because it was reccommended to us. Our dog like it, although his stools were sometimes a bit runny. We stopped using it becuase of the cost, very expensive, and have actually had better results with other foods. --Posted by: Melanie Pearce, from Brisbane, Australia (Rated 3).
--On 2005-10-23 13:20:29, I don't feed my dogs any brands by Iams or Eukanuba (which is made by Iams), not because of the quality of their products, but because they sponsor the Iditarod races, in which dogs are often and consistently dying and getting injured, and they refuse to end their sponsorships. (http://www.iamscruelty.com/iams-feat-iditarod.asp) Another horrible fact of Iams & Eukanuba is that they perform cruel lab experiments on animals, who live in horrid conditions, and are neglected and left to die, with no veterinary care. Many vet clinics, animal shelters and stores have learned about this, and are boycotting them. (http://www.iamscruelty.com/introduction.asp) And, while these actions do not affect or reflect on the quality of their pet foods, I for one refuse to purchase either one - these are supposed to be companies that promote and care about health and well-being in our pets...they clearly do NOT care. Thumbs WAYY down to these two brands. I apologize if this post offends anyone, but I truly feel that animal lovers need to be fully aware of what they are supporting when they purchase these brands. I'm sure that if you take a few minutes to read up on it, you'll agree! --Posted by: Corina, from Canada (Rated 1).
--On 2005-10-12 12:25:42, My puppy has days she can't get enough of it and some days it seems like she just doesn't feel like eating it. Her coat is beautiful. Her stools are inconsistent - though I blame her eating everything she sees on floor for the inconsistancy. The breeder had her on it so I just kept up with it. I have no plans on switching her. --Posted by: Karen, from Pennsylvania (Rated 4).
--On 2005-09-03 16:01:18, We just got a golden puppy . She is 8 weeks old and loves Eukanuba. She was on it coming from the breeder-so it came highly recommended. Her stools have been firm with no diarrhea--I am a happy mommy ! --Posted by: Gina Fisher, from Horsham,pa (Rated 4).
--On 2005-08-28 04:28:23, Hunter our 6 month old GR loves the food. We originally were feeding him Nutro Max and he'd eat it but had lose stools and he'd make a mess when he ate dropping food all over the floor from dining room to kitchen. Now since he's been eating Eukanuba for 2 weeks now, his stools are very firm and no more mess and he can't get enough. --Posted by: Jeanette Grober, from Phillipsburg, New Jersey (Rated 5).
--On 2005-08-22 11:47:39, Maggie is 4 1/2 months old and has been doing very well on this food. We have been mixing with canned Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Lamb Chunks. Seems to be a good combination. Very healthy skin and coat. It is a little more expensive than some other commercial foods but not as expensive as the "natural" foods. --Posted by: Randy, from M#achusetts (Rated 5).

--On 2007-06-04 21:57:27, Our breeder started our Golden on this food, and she stayed with it for seven years with no problem. Tried to change her diet to Nutro which has lower K-cals but that made her barf every day at the same time, like clockwork. Then tried to get "healthier" with Calif Natural, which has rave reviews from everyone on the planet and is supposed to be so easy on the tummy, but it makes my Golden's poops so runny/mushy that she has to be hosed off several times a day. We'll stick with Eukanuba -- we have never had any problems with the food and Star's health has been great and her coat is beautiful. Every food is different for every dog, I guess. --Posted by: Star's Mom (Rated 5).

--On 2006-12-28 21:53:51, We have used this for our breeding Kennel and have not seen any problems. Everyone really likes the coats and eyes. It's a shame that people ( PETA ) have used to define this company in such poor light. It was their research of DHEA that brought about the changes in all Dog Food. They also bring many other great research to our canine friends. If they treated dogs so bad why would AKC team up with them for the big Dog Show. --Posted by: Roger, from Illinois (Rated 5).
