--On 2006-12-28 19:27:15, Great book, wish I had read it prior to begining dog training. You don't have to "click", it's more about the dog's motivation and when to reward behavior. --On 2006-04-13 13:08:57, A beautifully written book ... actually more of a long love letter/memoir to his parents' Golden Retriever. The author also gives you background information on the area they lived/holidayed in and describes the geography of the area. We bought it whilst holidaying on Martha's Vineyard with our Golden Retriever (Walter) and it's a really lovely souvenair. My only warning to you is that you will be in a flood of tears at the end. I did feel the last third was just too much. The author really sounds like she lvoes what she does and she explains everything is an easy to understand way. This book is more anecdotal than anything else which I like. It also has a list of resources so that you can further research what she has written about in her book. It explores the extreme communication differences in species between dogs, as canids, and humans, as primates.
